A Springs woman, who allegedly kidnapped her daughter, briefly appeared in the Springs Regional Court on Thursday.

The case was postponed to October 30.

She is facing charges of kidnapping, theft of a motor vehicle and child abandonment.

The accused was arrested on August 28 after members of the Hi5Kids Recovery Unit task team, investigating officer WO Tracey Wentzel and other role players went to Reiger Park where they found the woman and her six-year-old daughter in a house.

“The child was placed at a place of safety but the woman was taken to the Springs police cells,” says Barries Barnard from Hi5Kids recovery Unit task team.

The 36-year-old woman’s first court appearance was on August 31 but it was postponed to September 15 because of a bail application.

Bail was denied and the case was postponed to October 5.

The accused kidnapped her own child as well as a two-year-old boy from a place of safety in Springs and took a Datsum 1200 bakkie on August 1.

On August 2, the boy was found abandoned in a hotel room in Hillbrow and was reunited with his mother.

Barnard says when they receive information they immediately reacted.

The woman will remain in custody in the Johannesburg Female Correctional Centre.
