Springs police are investigating a case of attempted murder of the owner of a local restaurant in Nigel Road who was hit on the head with a firearm on Saturday morning.
According to police spokesperson, Capt Johannes Ramphora, the owner entered his property at 2.40am, in Rhokana Street, Selcourt when he was assaulted from behind.
“The owner stopped his vehicle and three unknown men opened his door and assaulted him and demanded cash,” says Ramphora.
When the suspects demanded the house keys, they allegedly took the restaurant keys and tried to unlock the house, but failed.
Ramphora says upon hearing the noise at the door, the owner’s brother-in-law went to open the door to check what was happening.
“When he saw the three armed men struggling with the security door, one of the men fired a shot and the man was hit in his stomach.
“The three suspects ran away,” says Ramphora.
