Welgedacht Park project continues

Construction workers Eric Majiba, Joseph Sifundza, Elvis Laphidzi, Oliver Elijah and Anton Ramunda at the unfinished amphitheater at Welgedacht Park.

Workers on site were alarmed after they received termination of contract letters from the contractor.

The park was eagerly awaited by members of the community.

Ward Councillor Dean Stone with Dipuo Mashabela, the communications liaison officer on site.

The park would have included a picnic area, an amphitheater and a chessboard for players to enjoy.

However, it turned out to be a mere formality as they were originally contracted to work for six months.

The workers will now receive their contract on a week by week basis until the park is finished.

Dean Stone, ward councillor for the area says: “The community was very excited about this park.

“We have not had any security problems since construction began September last year.”

Themba Gadebe says: “We are still busy on site and we will be finalising the first phase before the end of this financial year.”
