The arrest was made opposite Palm Springs in Springs CBD.

The undercover team’s leader spotted a suspicious vehicle in Tsakane on Monday.

The number plate of the vehicle was registered to a car rental company in Boksburg.

The team leader reported the suspicious vehicle to his team.

“We monitored the vehicle’s occupants’ behaviour and found them to be very suspicious and we suspected criminal activities,” he says.

While on duty in Springs on Tuesday, one of his team members spotted the same vehicle reported on Monday and waited outside for the suspects to leave the shops.

When they noticed the suspects exiting the building, the team approached them and identified themselves and the suspects attempted to flee.

“The team chased them and caught the suspects,” he says.

“While the suspects were getting arrested, they allegedly offered each of the team members a bribe of R5 000 each, which would have totaled a bribe of R15 000.

“Trinity members do not take bribes.”

When they searched the suspects, they discovered death certificates, two of which were fake, identity documents, official forms and an undisclosed amount of fake money.

The team leader says they suspect the suspects were possibly in the process of fraudulent activities and advised the community to always take extra precaution.

“It’s a harsh reality of what is out there and criminals are committing crimes everywhere around us.”

The suspects are being detained at the Springs Police Station.

A case of unlawful possession of fake documents and counterfeit money has been opened at the station.

Capt Johannes Ramphora, spokesperson for the Springs police confirmed the arrest.

Alfred Breitenbach from Trinity Protection Services urges residents to be aware when using an ATM at all times.

“These criminals are so quick and people do not see it coming.

“It happens everywhere, at any time of day.”
