First phase of Welgedacht Park nears finish line

Phase one of Welgedacht Park is due to be completed in two months’ time. Back: Mondli Pakkies, Russell Limako. Front: Charles Visagie, Sibusiso Ngejane, Dean Stone, Kenneth Thethe, Zozo Pakathi, Nomvula Masilela and Emily Tfoeumakoa.

Ward councillor Dean Stone says Welgedacht has never had a park before and described it as long overdue.

The park, which has braai areas, a chess board and kiddies climbing wall will be the heart of the community once it is done.

Mondli Pakkies, a member of the community says, “This park will benefit the community.

“The youth of this area will have a safe area to enjoy instead of going out and doing bad things.”

Kenneth Thethe, also a community member, sees this park as an opportunity for parents to bond with their children.

“I think the parents should be involved in the community and this space allows parents to spend time with their children, do learning activities and generally keep them away from trouble,” says Thethe.
