Residents at Esda Old Age Home treated by local group

Petro Burr-Dixon, Mitta Nomasonto, Rita van Wyk and Izabelle Basson were all smiles after spending the morning together at the Esda Old Age Home.

The We Care Group of Springs spoiled the residents of Esda Old Age Home on a cold Tuesday morning. The group brought blankets, scarves, and cake to the residents in the Geduld-based home.

“We are a group of nine women that get together once a month since we’ve all gone on pension and have tea and crochet and knit.

“Two of us belong to the Dames King group and we realised that nobody supported this old age home.

“We were lucky to get some donations and we are so glad we were able to do this for them,” says organiser Izabelle Basson.

The morning started off with a reading from the Bible and a prayer.

Female residents were given scarves, crocheted blankets and a goodie bag.

The male residents were also given scarves, blankets and a goodie bag.

For Christmas, the We Care group also hope to give the men knitted scarves.

Speaking on behalf of the residents, Mr and Mrs Esda (Pieter Coetzee and Anne Van Den Berg) were thankful for what the group has done for them.

“We appreciated every little thing you’ve done.

“When we eat our little chocolates, we will think of you.

“God gives abundantly to those who give.

“We will now get through winter easily because of what you have done for us.”

Petro Burr-Dixon, the administrator at the old age home, was thrilled with what was done for the residents.

“I can’t say thank you enough.

“This was such a special event and we are so lucky to have you in our community.

“The residents were really spoiled today and it brought such joy to them and the smiles on their faces were wonderful to see.”
