The woman suspected of stealing R380 000 from a Springs bank handed herself over to the Springs police on Monday morning.
The 29-year-old went missing two weeks ago after meeting up with her boyfriend for lunch.
The following day (June 18) her employer opened a case of theft at the Springs Magistrate’ s Courts after R380 000 went missing from the bulk banking teller she was working from on her last day at work.
According to KwaThema police spokesperson, Captain Thabo Sibuyi, the suspect handed herself over to the police with the help of her lawyer.
“She alleged she was staying in Benoni during the first seven days she went missing and moved between KwaThema and Springs.
“She will appear before the Springs Magistrate’s Court on tomorrow (Tuesday),” he says.
KwaThema police were searching for a woman who is an employee of a Springs bank who allegedly fled with R380 000 cash last Sunday.
It is alleged the 29-year-old suspect was working in the bulk banking department on the day the money went missing.
She was reported missing at the KwaThema Police Station last Monday after she informed her family she was going out with her boyfriend.
KwaThema police say on Monday the family reported the suspect missing after all her phones were disconnected and they couldn’t find her.
“She told the family she was only going out for lunch and would be back within three to four hours but they never heard from her again.
“She left her work and cars keys at home and didn’t report for duty on Monday morning.
“One of her colleagues received a Whatsapp message from an international number from the suspect informing them where her work keys were,” he says.
Sibuyi says they received information from the Springs police that the suspect who was reported missing was in fact being investigated for theft.
“We followed up on the number and traced the boyfriend’s wife who called her husband and he told her he was in Nigeria but not with the suspect,” he says.
