Gugu Malaza suspended as CFO

Last Thursday, the Ekurhuleni Municipal Council announced the suspension of Gugu Pride Malaza, who was the Group Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the metro.

On Friday, Dr Imogen Mashazi, the city manager, issued Malaza a letter, requesting her to provide reasons as to why she should not be suspended.

Upon receiving a response, the city manager found there was no basis for her not to be suspended and Malaza was suspended effectively on Monday.

Malaza has been suspended pending the finalisation of an investigation into alleged non-disclosure of information regarding her dismissal from the South African Broadcasting Corporation as required by Regulation 11 of the Systems Act of 2000.

“Further investigations are currently being conducted by the city and should be concluded within the next three months.

“The metro has appointed an acting CFO, divisional head for supply chain management Kagiso Lerutla,” says Phakamile Mbengashe, acting spokesperson for the executive mayor.
